Champagne Mailly Grand Cru – L’Intemporelle Millésime 2006

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(around 49 Euros per bottle)

A Cooperative established in 1929, the Champagne House of Mailly Grand Cru that groups 80 wine growers produces and sells around 600,000 bottles a year, obtained exclusively from 70 hectares of vineyards, consisting of 480 plots, cultivated with 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir, classified Grand Cru of Mailly, in the heart of the Mountains of Reims.

Its look is simple and luxurious, in an elegant, numbered white glass bottle (17,319 bottles produced), encased in a magnificent box.

Appearance :

·        Gold

·        Fine perlage

·        Subtle bead

·        Limpid and bright

Nose :

·        Mighty and structured, a source of immediate and intense pleasure

·        The first nose is marked by hazelnut, caramel, roasted coffee, butter and chocolate, expressed by the great maturity of this Champagne, the result of yeast autolysis during lengthy ageing sur lattes of the bottles before disgorgement (4 years)

·        The nose then reveals aromas of candied citrus fruits (lemon, grapefruit) and mirabelle plum

Palate :

·        Intense attack, mineral and clean, an expression of the 40% Chardonnay of this Cuvée, originating from the great terroir of « Les Crayats », « Les Coutures » and « Les Roses » classified Grand Cru in Mailly-Champagne

·        The evident tension moves towards a round and enveloping density, deliciously peppery, an expression of the 60% Pinot Noir also from Mailly- Champagne (places: « Les Chalois », « Les Clos », « Les Godats », « Les Baraquines » and « Sous la ville »)

·        Balanced effervescence, wonderfully distributed in the palate

·        Remarkable length on the palate

With this Cuvée L’Intemporelle 2006, Hervé Dantan, Chef de Cave of the Champagne House of Mailly Grand Cru signs his name to Champagne with personality and impressive presence that delivers a beautiful image of the generous 2006 vintage.

A great aperitif, with foie gras canapés or caviar, or during a meal with French sautéed scallops in Champagne sauce.
