Champagne Collet – Brut Grand Art

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2013

(approx. 16 Euros per bottle)

Founded in 1921, the Champagne House of Collet is the oldest company of Champagne producers. Located in Aÿ and sole property of the Coopérative Générale des Vignerons de la Champagne Délimitée (COGEVI), based on 700 hectares of vineyards including the best cru of Champagne, and with a storage capacity of 34 million bottles. It produces and sells 13 million bottles of superb quality Champagne per year.

Luxurious and original presentation, well-designed.

Appearance :

·        Pale gold

·        Fine perlage

·        Elegant bead

·        Limpid and bright

Nose :

·        Pleasant and complex

·        Opens with scents of fresh butter, toasted bread, caramel and honey, a sign of the wonderful maturity of the Champagne, obtained by lengthy ageing sur lattes of the bottles for 5 years, before disgorgement

·        Elegant notes of lemon and grapefruit, together with apple, pear, almond, hazelnut and white flowers, expressions of the 40% Chardonnay

·        Subtle scents of cherry and sour cherry, subtly spicy (pepper, cinnamon), expression of the 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Pinot Meunier

Palate :

·        Pure and sophisticated attack, a delicious surprise, instantly strengthened by a warm roundness, probably the result of the malolactic fermentation and decidedly generous dosage, 9g/L of sugars added at disgorgement

·        The alluring minerality, an expression of the Premier and Grand Cru terroir of origin of the grapes, is persistent throughout the tasting

·        Reveals the citrus fruits already perceived at the nose

·        Delicately peppery finish

·        Good length on the palate

With this Cuvée Brut Grand Art, Sébastien Walasiak, Chef de Cave of the Champagne House of Collet, presents superbly blended Champagne, with 90% wine from 2006 and 10% reserve wines, which is at the same time complete, fresh and harmonious, a source of beautiful sensations.

Drink as an aperitif or during a meal with friends, with a seafood platter or cooked fish.
