Champagne Roger Manceaux – Brut Millésimé 2008

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2016

(around 25 euros per bottle)

Refined presentation.

Aspect :

·        Golden, brightened up with luminous green glints.
·        Fine bubbles.
·        Delicate bead of bubbles.

Nose :

·        Intense and with a joyful complexity.
·        Touches of citrus fruits, apple, pear, almond and hazelnut, subtly mentholated, elegant signatures of the Chardonnay (50%), selected on the Premier Cru terroir of Taissy.
·        The Champagne slowly takes us into a sensual aromatic universe, with some gentle notes of pastry, honey and caramel, moving towards roasted coffee, expression of the great maturity, obtained by the ageing on laths of the bottles for 5 years, before disgorgement.
·        Later, the Pinot Noir (50%) carefully chosen in the Grand Cru of Mailly-Champagne is revealed at last, with its compilation of red fruits and spices.

Palate :

·        Pure attack, dense, reinforced by the stop of the malolactic fermentation of the base wines and by the adjusted dosage with only 6 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement.
·        The mouth then becomes deep, enhanced by the vibrant minerality of the chalky soils.
·        Deliciously acidulous finish, barely spicy.
·        Remarkable length on the palate.

For this Brut Millésimé 2008, Patrick Manceaux, its producer, was able to select his oldest plots (45 to 58 years), to offer us a touching interpretation of the great year 2008.

To taste from aperitif to meal, to accompany Breton prawns just seared, for example.

Settled in Rilly-la-Montagne on a wine estate of 12 hectares of Grand Cru (Mailly-Champagne) and Premiers Crus (Rilly-la-Montagne, Trois-Puits, Taissy and Villers-Allerand) composed by the 3 champenois varietals (45% of Pinot Noir, 30% of Pinot Meunier and 25% of Chardonnay), the Champagne House Roger Manceaux tries hard to perpetuate the family traditions. A viticulture focused on reducing the environmental footprint and a controlled oenology give birth to 90,000 bottles of quality Champagnes per year.
