Guide VERON des Champagnes 2012
(around 24 euros per bottle)
The
Champagne Georges Vesselle is located in Bouzy in the Reims Mountain on a noble
soil, southerly oriented, on a vineyard of 17 hectares consisting of 90% of
Pinot Noir. It has been carrying on the Champagne ancestral tradition since the
sixteenth century by making high quality Champagne and red Bouzy.
The presentation of this champagne is traditional and
luxurious.
Appearance :
- Golden yellow
- Fine bubbles
- Refined and persistent Cordon
- Clear and luminous.
Aroma :
- Open,
hearty and sensuous
- First nose on delicate brioche peppered with roasted and buttered
overtones which then develop towards cocoa, translation of the gorgeous
maturity of this Champagne, obtained by a long ageing on lath
well-mastered by its maker, Eric Vesselle
- The nose then discloses a great complexity on honey and gingerbread, kirsch and crystallized plum.
Taste :
- The lively and racy attack, (striking contrast
with the nose) on minerality thanks to the 10% of Chardonnay, reinforced by the judicious absence of dosage at the disgorging,
gives straightaway rise to a singular emotion
- The mouth then expresses a quite unusual density and complexity,
great expression of the 90% of Pinot Noir
- Intense finale, subtly acidulous and spicy
- Outstanding length on the palate.
This blending Brut Zéro 2005-Grand
Cru is undisputably a Champagne of a great expression which gives the Champagne
Georges Vesselle and the great Bouzy Terroirs of the Reims Mountain, a nice
image.
Even if it is self-sufficient for the aperitif, it will be particularly appreciated along the meal together with seafood or why not with a duck magret cooked with honey.
