Champagne Taittinger – Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2006

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2016

(around 120 euros per bottle)

Champagne mythique

Inimitable and luxurious bottle.

Aspect :

·        Pale gold, brilliant.

·        Fine bubbles.

·        Bead of bubbles, persistent.

Nose :

·        Intense and sensual.

·        Fragrances of citrus fruits, apple and pear compote, underlined by touches of exotic fruits brightened up by a iodized and mentholated breath, signatures of the Chardonnay, exclusive varietal of the cuvée, harvested by hand in the best terroirs of the Côte des Blancs.

·        The nose then becomes rich and soft, with gentle scents of honey and gingerbread, subtly roasted, results of the ageing for 4 months of 5% if the base wines in new oak barrels (a third is renewed each year).

Palate :

·        Chiseled attack, allowed by the rigorous selection of the first juices (cuvée), during the soft pressing of the grapes.

·        The mouth is then revealed dense and sensual, expression of the maturity of the cuvée obtained by 8 years of ageing on laths of the bottles before disgorgement.

·        Tasty and mineral finish, punctuated by delicate spices.

·        Unrivalled length on the palate.

Loïc Dupont, Chef de Cave of the Champagne House Taittinger, was able to put his creative talent in the service of this cuvée Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs 2006 with a promising future and a clear personality, between power and sophisticated elegance, which draws its strength in the depth of the chalk of Champagne.

To taste from aperitif to meal, with a Tournedos of anglerfish Rossini, for example.

Created in 1734 under the name of Fourneaux, the Champagne House Taittinger is the most important brand of Champagne to bear the name of the family which manages it. Chaired since 2006 by Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger joined by his children, Vitalie and Clovis, settled on the historical chalk pits of the Saint-Nicaise abbey, he cultivates its vineyard of 288 hectares in the respect of the environment, to produce high level Champagnes, variations inspired around the Chardonnay, varietal emblematic of the House.
