Guide VERON des Champagnes 2015(approximately 21 euros)
Wine grower in Avenay-Val-d'Or since 1946, the champagne Gabriel-Pagin Fils cultivates its 9.5 hectare vineyard scattered over the grands crus of Avize and of Cramant and over the premiers crus of Avenay-Val-d'Or and of Mutigny, in the greatest respect of the environment ( Ampelos charter). A fine and natural oenology, respectful of the indigenous flora and of the traditions of the Champagne regions, allow the elaboration of 35 000 flasks of authentic champagne each year.
Sober and luxurious presentation.
Visual
aspect :
- Deep gold.
- Fine bubbles.
- Elegant and persistent bead.
Nose :
- Rich and delightful, revealed by the long wait
between disgorgement and the expedition of the bottles (6 to 12 months),
but mainly by the realisation of the vinifications with the indigenous
flora (natural).
- Generous aroas of crystallised red fruits (strawberry,
raspberry and blackcurrant) and brandied cherry, signatures of the pinot
noir, exclusive grape variety of the champagne.
- Great maturity, with seducing notes of croissant, honey and roasted coffee, results of a long ageing on laths before disgorgement (8 years).
Palate :
- Frank and dense attack, allowed by the light
dosage, with only 6g/L of added sugar during disgorgement, heightened by a
striking minerality.
- The mouth then becomes warm, with a sensual
wooden scent, thanks to the judicious realisation of the malolactic
fermentation, but mainly to the wine production and ageing in old oak
casks (over 10 years old) of the base wines for 10 months, on yeast and
bacteria lees.
- Delicate effervescence.
- Great length in the mouth.
With this Cuvee Roger Gabriel Millesime 2004, oenologist Aurelien Gabriel, knew how to find the very essence of the pinot noir and of the Avenay-Val-d'Or region, to give us an inspired interpretation of this beautiful year 2004.
