Champagne Jean-Yves de Carlini – Cuvée Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2016

(around 17 euros per bottle)

Careful presentation.

Aspect :

·        Golden.
·        Brilliant limpidity.
·        Fine bubbles, festive.
·        Elegant bead of bubbles, persistent, delicately spread on the periphery of the flute after service.

Nose :

·        Gourmet en generous.
·        Harmonious and touching cocktail of red and black fruits compote and fresh (plum, cherry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry and blackcurrant, enhanced by delicate spices (pepper, cinnamon and liquorice), heady signatures of the Pinot Noir rigorously selected on the old plots of the wine estate (30 years old and more).
·        Later, the nose reveals some reserved scents of honey, expression of the emerging maturity of the Cuvée, the result of ageing on laths of the bottles for 2 years before disgorgement.

Palate :

·        Accurate attack, classy and elegant, carried by a vibrant minerality, expression of the Grand Cru terroir de Verzenay, exclusive origin of the grapes.
·        The mouth then becomes dense, warm and melting, thanks to the generous dosage with 13g/L of sugar added at disgorgement, almost structured, underlined by the gentle and refined effervescence.
·        We find again honey, red fruits and spices perceived at the nose, tasty at the end.
·        Good length on the palate.

With this Cuvée Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru, Jean-Yves de Carlini, its maker, was able to blend base wines from different years of harvest, with 60% from 2012 and 40% reserve wine (2009, 2010 and 2011), in the pure champenois tradition, to offer us a touching interpretation of the Pinot Noir.

To taste during a meal among friends, to go with wings and thigh of braised squab, for example.

Wine growers in Verzenay, in the heart of the Mountain of Reims, the Champagne House Jean-Yves de Carlini elaborates with passion and markets around 60,000 bottles of quality Champagnes each year, variations on the Grands Crus of Verzenay and Verzy on which is settled its vineyard of 6.80 hectares.
