Champagne Mailly Grand Cru - Blanc de Pinot Noir Grand Cru

Guide VERON des Champagnes 2019

(around 38 euros per bottle)

Sober and refined presentation for this champagne from the new range « Composition parcellaire ».

Aspect:

Gold, brilliant.

Particularly fine bubbles.

Fine bead of foam.

Nose:

Generous fragrances, sources of intense pleasure.

Aromas of red and black fruits underlined by delicate spices, touching signatures of the Pinot Noir, exclusive varietal of the cuvée.

The maturity is slowly revealed with scents of cocoa and roasted coffee, result of 3 years of ageing on laths in the deep cellars of the house.

Palate:

Remarkable presence at the opening, life-giving thanks to the rigorous selection of the first juices during the pressing of the grapes (cuvée), highlighted by a chalky minerality.

Sensual roundness reinforced by the dosage, with 8 g/L of sugar added at disgorgement.

Joyful balance at the end, coupled with delicate woody notes obtained by the vinification of 15.1% of the base wines in oak barrels.

Fabulous length on the palate.

For this visionary cuvée Blanc de Pinot Noir Grand Cru, Sébastien Moncuit, cellar master of the Champagne house Mailly Grand Cru, was able to accompany with sensitivity the Pinot Noir harvested nice ripe in 4 localities among the 35 which form the wine estate (« Les Côtes », « Les Poules », « Sous la Ville Regards » and « Les Baraquines »), facing north in the Grand Cru of Mailly-Champagne.

Ideal as an aperitif or during a meal, with a duck breast fillet roasted with blackcurrant cream, for example.

Born in 1929 from the boldness of few wine growers to deal with the difficulties, the Champagne house Mailly Grand Cru now gathers 80 wine growers to cultivate a 75 hectares vineyard exclusively established in the chalk of the Grand Cru of Mailly-Champagne mainly facing north. The 480 plots of the wine estate, of which the majority are certified Haute Valeur Environnementale, are vinified separately, in vats or in barrels, to produce each year the 500,000 bottles of highly expressive champagnes which form the ranges of the Champagne house Mailly Grand Cru.
