Guide VERON des Champagnes 2020
(around 25 euros per bottle)
Engraved bottle,
sober and elegant. Back label full of information.
Aspect:
Solar.
Refined
bubbles.
Sensual
tears.
Nose:
Sumptuous
aromatic harmony, source of heady emotions.
The
fragrances of jammy red and black fruits, revelations of the Pinot Noir (45%)
and Meunier (30%), gently interlace the scents of candied citrus fruits, apple,
pear, quince and nice ripe exotic fruits, delicately iodized and mentholated,
refined characteristic signs of the Chardonnay (25%).
Later,
the champagne slowly unveils its joyful maturity, with touches of marzipan, and
then of cocoa and roasted coffee, result of 5 years of patient ageing with
autolysis of the prise de mousse
yeasts.
Palate:
The cuvée reveals all its vital force,
brilliant, at the opening, reinforced by the rigorous selection of the first
juices (cuvée), purer, during the
soft pressing of the grapes.
Impressive
presence, coupled with an improbable balance between enveloping warmth and
life-giving freshness, highlighted by a lively and creamy effervescence.
Delicious
finish, underlined by subtle spices.
Rare
length on the palate.
Charlène
Loriot and her father Xavier were able to grasp the distinctive personality of
the grapes carefully harvested by hand to sign this overwhelming Millésime
2012, with incredible delicacy.
To taste from aperitif to meal,
with lamb fillets and fresh goat cheese, for example.
While her
father Xavier was able to expand the vineyard and equip the wine estate with
modern facilities (press, fermenting room and cellars), Charlène Loriot tries
hard since 2000, assisted by her sister Marine, to impose with passion the
inimitable style of the Champagne house Xavier Loriot producing splendid
champagnes. She cultivates with love the 42 plots of the
10.5 hectares vineyard, well-exposed on the right bank of the Marne
Valley, between Binson-et-Orquigny, Villers-sous-Châtillon and Reuil, in the
respect of the environment, to enhance the generosity of the terroirs.
