Grape varietals: three main varietals are cultivated
in Champagne: Chardonnay (30%), Pinot Noir (38%) and Meunier (32%). Other
traditional varietals are still present in very small quantities (less than
0.3% of the whole wine-growing region): Arbanne, Petit Meslier, Pinot Gris and
Pinot Blanc. The producer, by selecting
the grape varieties to integrate in the blending, determines the character of
the champagne obtained. See each variety.
